Subscription Terms
Effective Date: July 27, 2026 Last Updated: July 27, 2026
These terms explain exactly how billing works, in the specific detail that Apple, Google, and consumer-protection laws (including the US Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act and California's automatic renewal law) require.
Right now: the launch period is free
Marlo is in a free launch period. Every feature is unlocked, no payment method is required, and no charge can be made. Nothing below applies to you until paid plans are switched on, and we will tell you before that happens.
What you get
| Plan | Price | Billing period |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | — |
| Personal | $9.99 | Monthly, auto-renewing |
| Personal | $89.00 | Yearly, auto-renewing |
| Pro | $19.99 | Monthly, auto-renewing |
| Pro | $179.00 | Yearly, auto-renewing |
Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax, which is calculated and shown before you confirm. Current features and usage limits for each plan are listed on the pricing page.
Automatic renewal — the important part
- Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period.
- You are charged the then-current price of your plan at the start of each new period, using the payment method on file.
- Renewal continues until you cancel — there is no fixed end date.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. You keep access until then, and you are not charged again.
- We will email you a receipt for every charge.
How to cancel
Web subscriptions (Stripe). Open the app, go to Profile → Manage billing, and cancel in the billing portal. Cancellation is immediate and effective at the end of the paid period. You can also email support@marlojournal.com and we will do it for you.
iOS subscriptions (Apple). Open the Settings app on your device, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Marlo, and cancel there. Apple manages these subscriptions and we cannot cancel them for you. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge.
Free trials and promotional periods
If you receive a free trial or promotional period:
- The length and terms are disclosed before you start it.
- Unless you cancel before it ends, it converts automatically into a paid auto-renewing subscription at the price disclosed at signup.
- If you subscribe to a paid plan during a trial, the paid subscription begins immediately and the remainder of the trial ends.
- Apple's rules apply to trials started through the App Store, including that any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase.
Changing plans
Upgrading takes effect immediately, with a prorated charge for the remainder of the current period. Downgrading takes effect at the start of the next period.
Price changes
We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before changing the price of an existing subscription. You may cancel before the new price takes effect. Where the law requires affirmative consent to a price increase, we will ask for it rather than assume it.
Refunds
Except where the law requires otherwise, charges are non-refundable and canceling stops future renewals rather than refunding the current period. We consider good-faith requests at support@marlojournal.com.
Purchases made through Apple are refunded by Apple only. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com — we have no ability to issue a refund for an App Store purchase.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, we will retry and email you. If it keeps failing, your account moves to the Free tier. Your entries are not deleted — features beyond the Free tier simply become unavailable until billing is restored.
Taxes
Prices exclude sales tax and VAT, which are calculated based on your billing location and shown before you confirm.
What happens to your data if you stop paying
Nothing is deleted because you downgraded. Your recordings and entries remain in your account, and you can always export everything from Profile → Export my data.
